The band from St. Louis most often garners comparisons to groups like Weezer, Queen and They Might Be Giants. They released their third album, "You're Awful, I Love You," earlier this year and are currently on tour with Relient K and This Providence.
Ludo will be making a stop to help UNO celebrate its centennial by playing a free show in the Milo Bail Student Center Plaza. The show starts at 9 p.m. and is open to all members of the UNO community.
Although the average UNO student may not be familiar with Ludo, that's part of the band's appeal.
"We chose Ludo because they're new, fresh and a wonderful up-and-coming band that we would like the UNO students to experience," said Megan Schmitz, public relations co-chair for Maverick Productions.
The band consists of vocalist Andrew Volpe, guitarist Tim Ferrell, keyboardist Tim Convy, bassist Marshall Fanciullo and drummer Matt Palermo. Fanciullo is from Omaha, one of the towns the group has continually hit from the very beginning, Convy said earlier this year.
Ludo is nationally known for their stage presence. They will undoubtedly put on an engaging, high-energy performance, said UNO senior James Duysen, an avid Ludo fan.
"I wouldn't even venture to guess what kind of shenanigans will go on," Duysen said.
Passionate fans such as Duysen encourage the band to keep coming to Omaha. Convy said he feels one of the factors that keeps the fans coming back is their live show.
"We're unique and you never know what's really going to happen at a Ludo show, because we don't know what's going to happen," Convy said.
The band is the biggest name Maverick Productions has brought to campus so far this year.
Maverick Productions works through an agency to get in contact with more nationally known bands such as Ludo, Schmitz said. It's just one evening in a host of events that the group has planned during UNO's centennial celebration.
"UNO students can expect an entertaining night packed full of awesome alternative rock music," Schmitz said.
