UNO Chancellor John Christensen provided little detail but said all options are being considered for the projected 2010-11 budget cuts at a forum on Nov. 19.
Christensen said he did not have any specifics from central administration or the Board of Regents and would not receive any "system-arching orders" until January, but he still wanted to hold the forum to keep the process as transparent as possible.

The student senate met Nov. 19 and passed a resolution that will extend library hours until 2 a.m. during prep and finals weeks.
President/Regent-elect Michael Crabb introduced the resolution. None of the funds to keep the library open the extra two hours will come from the student government, he said.

Although few specifics or absolutes were provided, the panel agreed that the budget crisis is unprecedented for UNO.
"We are in a new territory as a campus, in terms of the magnitude of the challenge," Christensen said. "I would not be truthful if I said this is like what we would have to deal with in the past, because it's not.

A former U.S. ambassador to Israel gave his analysis of the U.S. effort to bring peace to the Middle East, both past and present, in front of a standing room only audience at Thompson Alumni Center on Nov. 24.
Martin Indyk, also vice president and director of the Brookings Institute, said he hoped his failures in brokering a peace arrangement between Israel and Palestine would serve as a "lantern on the stern" for the Obama Administration.

The Pew Internet & American Life Project recently released the findings of its study, "Social Isolation and New Technology," which found that people's use of mobile phones and the Internet actually increases their social networks.
These findings go against popular opinion and mainstream media, which has always been critical of technology and social media, said Adam Tyma, a UNO assistant professor who specializes in computer-mediated communication.
