Steinweis gives Kristallnacht lecture to filled room

"Kristallnacht," German for "the night of the shattered glass," took place on Nov. 9, 1938. It was a horrific act of violence - murder, rape, beatings and the destruction of property - systematically committed against Jews in Germany before World War II. Dispelling some myths surrounding that historical night was the goal of a lecture given by Alan Steinweis, a UNL history professor, in a Thompson Alumni Center room filled with upwards of 150 people Tuesday.

Revised alert procedures to follow Western Kentucky University fight

BOWLING GREEN, Ky (UWIRE) - Officials at Western Kentucky University are revising procedures for handling crisis situations on campus. On Oct. 22, police received reports of armed men on South Campus and shots fired at Pearce-Ford Tower. Officials said the incident appears to be only a physical fight that started on South Campus and continued to the tower.

Saturday, Oct. 25 11:24 p.m. While on patrol, Campus Security observed suspicious activity at the Lot H intersection. Further investigation disclosed the driver of a vehicle was wanted by Omaha police for leaving the scene of an accident. Omaha police arrived and arrested the suspect for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Campus Security clarifies crime log entries details from last week

The Gateway spoke with Paul Kosel, assistant manager of Campus Security, to clarify a few entries from the Campus Crime Log published last issue. On Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1:59 a.m., Campus Security witnessed suspicious activity in Lot J that resulted in a foot chase.

Young audience members removed at McCain rally in Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (UWIRE) - Young, college-aged audience members escorted out of Sen. John McCain's, R-Ariz., campaign event in Cedar Falls questioned why they were asked to leave Sunday's rally even though they were not protesting. David Zarifis, director of public safety for the University of Northern Iowa, said McCain staffers requested UNI police assist in escorting out "about four or five" people from the rally prior to McCain's speech.

"Campus Security received two reports Oct 30 of men knocking on UV doors claiming they were RAs," according to the first alert.
